Useful Excel Data Collection Tip

If you’re in the Web Analytics/SEO industry you will often find yourself trying to copy data into excel from other sources (Keywords, Search Engine Stats, etc…). An article posted at Text Link Brokers makes importing data into excel VERY simple.

By navigating to the following option in excel:
DATA > IMPORT EXTERNAL DATA > NEW WEB QUERY
Then selecting the desired data, a person can import any part of given webpage quickly to excel.

Go ahead and try if for your self!

  1. Manoj: A simple trick I use to capture tables is to simply hold the Ctrl key and click on the cells I want on the website and hit copy and paste into excel and get a perfect copy of the table. If I hold Ctrl and hit the border of the table it will automaticlaly pick up the whole table. Atleast in firfox.

Of course Text Link Brokers describes a more robust method. :) Thanks for sharing.

I’ll have to try that out. Firefox always allows users cool bonuses that IE simply can’t do.

    Thanks for the tip Avinash.
