Ultimate Web Analytics Comparison Resources

I am often asked by colleagues, clients, and blog readers for comparisons between different Web Analytics Products: “What are the differences between Google Analytics and SiteCatalyst,” “How do I know which web analytics product to use?” So I did some research and have compiled a list of resources which compare analytics products. I also grabbed the ‘feature’ page links from various web analytics vendors so that all this data could be accessed in one place. Enjoy:

  1. Hi Manoj

Fantastic list! – if you don’t mind; I am going to spread this link within the sales org :-)

As an input to your list, one of the best comparisons that I have read lately is the one from Gary Angel and co.:

HBX and SiteCatalyst – Comparative Analysis

    Kind regards

  2. Manoj Jasra says:

Go ahead and share the link Dennis.

Gary and Team do excellent work as well.

  3. Frank Reese says:

    Hi Manoy,

thank you for this great list.

I’d like to add modestly another source: http://www.idealobserver.com/solutionsguide

    Kind of shameless self-promotion :-)

Link to google-webtrends comparison is incorrect.

Thanks Frank, your link has been added.

  6. Manoj Jasra says:

The Google-WebTrends link has been updated. Thanks for pointing that out.

  7. Hi Manoj .. (and Frank)

I (IndexTools) participated in the idealobserver solutionsguide and would like to indicate and endorse it here – as damn good work!

    N.B.
I assume I will see you at Emetrics Frank?

    :)

  12. Casey John says:

    Manoj,

Good job on the list! There is one tool you didn’t include in the comparision that I really like. It’s called nextSTAT. It has really helped me a lot!

  13. Manoj Jasra says:

    Thanks Casey,

I’ve updated the list with NextStat.

    Hi Manoj,

Would you mind doing a comparison with WebtraffIQ.

We are now mainly a bespoke technical and consultancy driven organisation. We do however have an easy to use off the shelf offering.

  16. DougW says:

How about an alternative to tags and logs for the data capture? We supply passive capture to some very big e-commerce sites. They save huge amounts of effort because they don’t have to keep up with tagging and they cannot process raw web logs because of the massive sizes and number of servers. The solution can feed existing analytics packages and emulate tags without the tagging. Real-time sessionization is also included. We replaced Omniture with our passive capture technology emulating tags to an in-house WebTrends recently at a major e-tail site.

  17. ChrisG says:

I think you should remove the Google-WebTrends link as it says nothing of substance.

  18. Manoj Jasra says:

    Doug,

Thanks for the link, I will add it to the post. I would love to hear more about Passive Capture.

  19. Manoj Jasra says:

    Chris,

I took your recommendation and updated the link to something with more substance., I am still looking for a strong Google analytics vs. WebTrends comparison.

  20. Dann says:

Thanks Manoj for a very in-depth compilation of web analytics. But for now I have to make do with Google Analytics.

  21. DougW says:

    Manoj

Passive Data Capture is a good solution if you have a medium-large site and want more info than you get from standard tags. Once users get to like Analytics, they want more and that often means custom tags and expontially more work for IT. With a Passive Capture Device with a rule engine, you can pick out the data you want in a much more general way while fitering out the stuff you don’t. It’a also very applicable to companies that want their web data in-house either to join to enterprise data or for security reasons. Many of our users feed multiple applications with different views of the data.

  22. HoopsFan says:

Is there a matrixed comparison chart for web analytics tool:

  23. It’s a shame none of these comparisons can give you much detail on the implementation process. Most of the stuff you find in these comparisons is marketing talk from the vendors but comments from experience are much more valuable.

I’m against naming vendors so I won’t, but one of the largest out there left me and my team with a nasty taste. They’re so inefficient, so incapable at times, yet charge us handsomely. The approved consultants you get when you need customisation are inexperienced and a nightmare to work with and what makes it worse is that I have to remind THEM to renew my subscription.

Once they reel you in they know it’ll take a lot for you to switch (data dependency, training, time involved in setting up another solution). Dirty business.

    Hi there,

I see you are missing off your list one of the UK leading web analytics vendors Intellitracker.

They provide very indepth analytics for such organisations as Oxfam and the Daily Mail group.

    I believe they are due to go live with a new website in the next few weeks but at present their old website can be reached at;

  25. Very usefull list thanks so much for this!

  26. Jasmine says:

    Hi Manoj
    Great List!
Have you done any research on Woopra yet? (www.woopra.com) They are still in beta version but I am interested to hear your thoughts on how they compare to Google Analytics?
    Thanks
    Jasmine
