Unless your site has only few pages, you should have an internal search box implemented on your web site. Let me show you why internal search is helpful to you.
- Help visitors navigate the web site. Many companies don’t have a good navigation implemented for the visitors; even they do, visitors may still want to locate the expected contents asap.
- Help website generate contents ideas. Take a look at what the visitors are looking for on your web site; those are something your visitors expect to read on your site. It can sometimes get you some great ideas for new contents.
- Lift conversion rates. The easier it is for the visitors to find what they want, the more satisfied the customers become, the higher conversion you can have (based on my experience).
- Keywords mining. Apply the new keywords you get from the internal search to your paid search campaigns.
- Generate more revenue. For those who monetize their contents, you can implement Google’s CSE as your internal search engine and get paid when you connect it to your AdSense account.
When the internal search is implemented, be sure to track it and test it. If you use Google Analytics, here is a quick guide to implement the tracking.
