Among other sessions, on Tuesday of Search Engine Strategies Chicago I attended SEM Small Business Blitz.

- Crawl Your Site, with sites like: GSiteCrawler.com.
- Export data to Excel file.
- Sort URL’s.
- Assign 1 keyword to optimize per page.
- Write tags based on findings.
- Use and update spreadsheet routinely to keep accurate records of changes

John, these are great tips. One thing that really gets me about small businesses doing SEM/SEO is the lack of focus on conversions or any sort of conversion goal. Seems like those I have come in contact with have "joined the bandwagon" and become trigger-happy with SEM but not really understand the value behind it.

Carrie’s points on organizing your SEO efforts were excellent. Too many people are just aiming everywhere, with no target or conversion plan in place.
