SES London 2009: Interview of Dave Naylor

Manoj Jasra - Wednesday, January 21, 2009 2 Comments

Search Engine Strategies London is less than a month away and is host to a number of great speakers. This includes SEO Veteran Dave Naylor, Owner of Bronco Internet, a highly talented and successful web development and SEO agency. I had a chance to catch up with Dave Naylor to get insight on his sessions related to Blogging & SEO, Reputation Management and Affiliate Marketing.

[Manoj]: What kind of SEO opportunities and benefits are organizations missing out on when they don't have a blog or they don't syndicate their content?

[Dave Naylor]: The main aspect that organisations are missing out on is QDF (query deserves freshness). Google index blog content quickly which will make your site relevant. If the blog is made interesting then over time you will start to build a community who will return over and over again, and potentially link to you. It doesn’t have to be a blog, but good content always helps.

[Manoj]: Will Blogging and SEO become more prominent in 2009 with the global recession still lurking?

[Dave Naylor]: Companies not only need to invest in good websites but to invest in their user too. The way to come out on top in a recession is to offer something extra or something different. This isn’t to say that blogging will become more prominent but SEO certainly will as people become wiser to the best ways to spend their online marketing budgets. Also on the SEO front people need to be making sure they use agencies that they can trust so that results are good and their site is secure.

[Manoj]: What are some best practices in regards to locating and dealing with negative messaging for your brand?

[Dave Naylor]: Dealing with depends on where the negative comment is and the age of the comment. A number of times we have approached the owner of the blog or forum and managed to get the thread or comment removed. If the webmaster is contactable it’s a good place to start. In terms of Locating there are various reputation management tools that can be used, or to use things such as Google Alerts and to keep a check on the serps.

[Manoj]: Can you recommend any favorite tools you use for Reputation management?

[Dave Naylor]: There are a couple of Reputation Management tools that are good, one being the Distilled Reputation Monitor and the other is Andy Beal's Trackur.

[Manoj]: What kind of insight will we get from your session on "Affiliate & Search Marketing Square Off"

[Dave Naylor]: I have only recently been requested to join this panel so I haven’t quite got the full plan worked out, but as people will know I’m always very open and honest with often radical views on online marketing ... so you’ll just have to wait and see.
