Real-Time Monitor from ClickTale

Today ClickTale launched its Real-Time Monitor, which enables you to see where visitors are coming from, and watch exactly what they are doing in Real-Time. See precisely which pages they are browsing, as well as all their mouse moves, clicks, scrolling and keystrokes.

Ideal for usability testing and landing page optimization, the Real-Time Monitor will allow you to see right away how your users react to the changes and improvements you make to your site, without waiting hours or days for traffic analysis.

This is an industry first in Web Analytics, ClickTale is offering this service to all of their subscribers, even on the free plan.

  1. Can anyone explain to me why I should care about real-time nav reports? Isn't reacting right away to real-time reactions to changes a bit risky? Don't we still need some statistical significance before drawing conclusions?

  2. Manoj Jasra says:

    Hi Jacques,

I think you're absolutely right with the fact that we need a solid amount of data before drawing conclusions. But I could see the real-time mouse tracking / visitor monitoring come in handy in the case there were issues on my landing pages that would cause irregular actions.

I have the same concerns as Jacques. While it sounds like a cool thing, before making any business decisions, we need to have actionable data.

Having said that Gomez does a lot of real time tracking. So i am not very sure about this being Industry's first. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Real time monitoring has existed for a while, both StatCounter and VisiStat do it quite well. I believe Click Tale's spin on it is the ability to combine the real time mouse movements and navigation as well.

  5. Woopra does it quite well also, giving you a breakdown of visitor pages and time spent on each with each session numbered.

Not real actionable, agreed, but you can start a real-time chat, which might help your micro conversions, or creep people out.

  6. Shmuls says:

From what I can tell, clicktale is mainly used for page optimization and testing, not just for statistics.

That said, real time monitoring is perfect for seeing how effective changes to your site are. For example, you can make changes to your landing page and instantly see live videos and data on things like time spent on the page and if your changes leads visitors further onto other pages on your site. It's also useful for checking for errors on pages, which you always want to correct right away!

It's basically a way to see how visitors respond to your minute-by-minute changes, and would probably be very useful for blogs or news sites with a constantly changing landing page.
