Google, Yahoo, Live Up but ASK Down – January 2009


Hitwise announced today that Google accounted for 72.07 percent of all U.S. searches conducted in the four weeks ending Dec. 27, 2008. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com received 17.79 percent, 5.56 percent and 3.15 percent, respectively. The remaining 44 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.42 percent of U.S. searches.

Both MSN Search and Yahoo! Search saw increases of 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively, in December 2008 compared with November 2008. MSN Search has increased five months in a row now. For 2008 overall, Google accounted for 69.48 percent of all U.S searches, representing an 8 percent increase over 2007. Ask.com increased 1 percent in 2008 compared with 2007.

Live and Google Up, Yahoo Down in November

Hitwise, announced today that Google accounted for 71.97 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending Nov. 29, 2008. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 17.70 percent, 5.45 percent and 3.35 percent, respectively. The remaining 43 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.53 percent of U.S. searches.

Google Approaches 71% Share – MSN, Yahoo Down

Google accounted for 70.77 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending July 26, 2008, Hitwise announced today. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 18.65, 5.36 and 3.53 percent respectively. The remaining 47 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.69 percent of U.S. searches.

Google Up, MSN and Yahoo Down in May

Google accounted for 68.29 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending May 31, 2008, Hitwise announced yesterday. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 19.95, 5.89 and 4.23 percent respectively. The remaining 41 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.63 percent of U.S. searches.

In the U.K. market, Google search properties (Google.co.uk and Google.com) accounted for 87 percent of all UK searches in May 2008 representing a 12 percent increase compared to May 2007. Yahoo! search properties accounted for 4.09 percent of UK searches in May 2008, a 2 percent increase compared to April 2008. MSN search properties accounted for 3.72 percent and Ask search properties accounted for 3.07 percent of searches. MSN increased two percent compared to April 2008 and Ask increased 6 percent.

Google Steady, MSN Down in January

Hitwise, today announced that Google accounted for 65.98 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending January 26, 2008. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 20.94, 6.90 and 4.21 percent respectively. The remaining 48 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.97 percent of U.S. searches.

Google Up to 66%, Yahoo, MSN, ASK Down

Hitwise, today announced that Google accounted for 65.98 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending December 29, 2007. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 20.88, 7.04 and 4.14 percent respectively. The remaining 49 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.71 percent of U.S. searches.

Also notice how all 3 of Yahoo, MSN, ASK declined in search share percentage over December.

Google, Yahoo, MSN Steady in November

In November, Google Sites share of core searches stood at 58.6 percent, virtually the same level as in October. Yahoo! Sites ranked second with 22.4 percent, followed by Microsoft Sites (9.8 percent), Ask Network (4.6 percent) and Time Warner Network (4.5 percent), which had the largest share point gain during the month (up 0.3 points).

In the November 2007 analysis of the Top 50 properties worldwide where search activity is observed, Google Sites led the pack with 7.3 billion searches. Yahoo! Sites ranked second with 2.4 billion searches, followed by Microsoft Sites (984 million), and Time Warner Network (838 million). As a result of search activity likely related to holiday shopping, eBay and Amazon Sites both experienced an increase for the month with 489 million and 178 million queries, respectively.
