Something that I have often heard being a factor is distance from main exchanges - Australia is very big (and beautiful !) ... I take though you are not in the outback :) ?

I don't think these figures are accurate, especially not for Australia. I'm lucky to reach 1mb/s and asking others with different providers, speeds will rarely climb above about 1-1.5. I don't believe that this would be an average. Seeing results like these definitely make me want to move though :P

Hi Ankit,

It looks as if there's a few groups having difficulties when I look at the community help pages.

When you say you're not able to send an email to your friends who are not connect with you, are you meaning they are in the group but not connected as a friend to your personal account? Facebook does advise that you aren't able to send private messages to the group members, they are encouraging group admins to post a status update and then the group members are notified by updates on their wall or email (depending on their notification settings).

Facebook advise that you can only add people that you are friends with to a group, so it is worthwhile getting your 500 members to share the group with their own friends to encourage them to join.<a href="http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=190622277696378#Can-I-add-people-to-a-group-if-I'm-not-friends-with-them-on-Facebook?" rel="nofollow">http://www.facebook.com/help/</a>

One of the community help members is advising that Facebook is not good with including small or with new groups in the Facebook search, so I think this is happening with your new group, you'll need to encourage your group to share the full url of your new group with their friends and you should be doing the same if you are looking for new members. The focus for groups is more on friends and family or small groups of people with a specific interest and if you are looking to connect with larger numbers of people it may be that a page is better for you.

Finally - just in case you need it for the future, the <a href="//www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=groups_bug" rel="nofollow">Facebook bug reporting link for groups</a>

I hope this helps, but do come back and let us know how you get on!

Hi Angela,

I am facing the same problem as Amy.

I created a group by the name "Connect Manpower" on facebook few days back and am close to 500 members but these are all invited members.

One I am not being able to send email to my friends who are not connected via facebook to me and secondly I am also not being able to search for the group from a profile other then those of members.

Please advice how to come around this?

Regards,
Ankit

Thanks for that hint. Haven't tried ObservePoint yet, will take a look at it. Again, any browser-based tool is flawed when it comes to browser-specific bugs, and there are plenty when dealing with JavaScript.
But for a first look, tools like ObservePoint, WASP and HttpFox are certainly a great option!

Try ObservePoint for FF plugin. It's the same as WASP but detects other scripts as well and can see the request URL gif

Thanks for the addition, Guillaume! HttpFox is certainly a great plugin.
I still prefer Fiddler2 (see upcoming post) because that one is not dependent on any browser which is something that always causes trouble when dealing with JavaScript code.

I also highly suggest the "HttpFox" Firefox extension.

It is similar to Firebug (in its "net" tab) but it allows to filter the list to see only your tracking hits instead of having to find them in the middle of every request the browser sends.

At present I primarily use Firefox on my main computer, though its not because I dislike the other browsers. Previously I mostly used Explorer but then one day for some unknown reason I was no longer able to select text from web pages. This was extremely annoying given that I tend to copy page titles for tweets and things of that nature. I also had Chrome but decided to move some non-essential applications to a larger drive to free up space, it messed up Chrome and I haven't been able to successfully reinstall Chrome.

I found that I prefer some features of Firefox compared to Explorer (Stumble Upon toolbar, plug-ins, etc.) and an IT guy told me to stick with Firefox as its more secure. I still occasionally use Explorer when I'd like to watch something on the internet on my TV while using the internet on my computer.

Hi Amy,

A google search returns a Homer High School group that you didn't mention (HHS Swing Choir Members), but the group is showing the "This group is scheduled to be archived" message that we talked about last year, <a href="http://www.webanalyticsworld.net/2011/05/facebook-archiving-old-groups-proves-a-challenge-for-users.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.webanalyticsworld.net/2011/05/facebook-archiving-old-groups-proves-a-challenge-for-users.html</a>.

If your three groups were created round about the same time as HHS Swing Choir Members it may be that they have already been archived by Facebook.

When you are in your profile, check out the link to groups and see if you can see a link to these groups. Although we closed down our old WAW Group I didn't delete it as I wanted to see what happens when Facebook archive it and I can still access it by going via my account and viewing groups.

Best of luck in finding your groups and moving them to a new group/page!
