Digital Surgeons, has designed a very cool infographic comparing the Facebook population to the Twitter population. The infographic compares demographics, activity, location and awareness against the two social media giants (*Note: the data is a few months old) . Here are the highlights from the graphic:
-
Facebook: 500 million users, Twitter: 106 million users (Dec 2010: Facebook almost 600 million users and Twitter 200 million)
-
88% of people are aware of Facebook vs. 87% for Twitter
-
41% of Facebook users login everyday, 27% of Twitter users login everyday
-
30% of Facebook users login via mobile, 37% of Twitter user login via mobile
-
18-25 year olds make up the largest age group on Facebook with a 29% share of users
-
26-34 year olds make up the largest age group on Twitter with a 30% share of users
-
70% of Facebook users are located outside of the US, 60% of Twitter users are located outside of the US
Wow, these numbers are off.
Facebook hit 500 million back in July.
Twitter currently has over 220 million.
I'd be curious to know how these guys arrived at their numbers.
I agree with you Mike. Here are some of their sources:

The numbers may be off but consider the time to compile one of these against the rate of change on both these sites! Still some staggering statistics there though!
I was definitely shocked by the age of twitter users being older than facebook users! I thought that would be the other way round!
Thanks for sharing this
Simon
How can 27% of Twitter users login everyday but 52% update their status everyday? I find it hard to believe 25% of Twitter users are scheduling tweets on their off days.
