Yes it’s another post about Pinterest, but love it or hate it seems we just can’t ignore it.
The infographic below shows some of the incredible stats on growth rates side by side with some of the other giants of the web. It also attributes a few reasons for its quick success, which in the main are based on the fact that it is very visual and its simplicity and ease of use. It seems that attention spans are becoming so short online that pinning pictures is what it’s all about online (can you sense my cynicism?)
It’s very early days for this social network and already it’s the talk of the web with all sorts of issues arising
- copywriting, resulting in a change of terms
- unethical usage
- spam (although the interviewed spammer is now saying it was a hoax)
However despite all this there seems to be no stopping its growth. There’s some interesting demographics in this infographic showing a slant towards female users aged between 25-34, although we know that in the UK the majority of Pinterest users are males.
The top interests at the end show the difference between the US and UK users, and you can see five examples of best practice from brands who seem to be engaging their audiences using this medium.
