Is there a $ strategy for my App?
If you have already developed a mobile application (App), or perhaps are wondering if you can justify the investment, the question of how, or even if, to monetize will have arisen.
I came across a “decision tree” style infographic for Android Apps the other day and I thought it was worthy of sharing. It is a great way to kick off your thought process. You might even use it as the basis of a strategy session and save a facilitators fee….
Creating a revenue strategy for apps
Start with what you know about Apps and map these to your product/service/game. On the downside, Apps can be more expensive to develop than mobile versions of your site, they need to be “found”, then downloaded, and are platform specific. On the upside, once they are installed on your users device they are capable of some fairly complex functions, have some offline functionality, use the processing power and functions of the phone itself and allow interactivity and personalization – the attractions to businesses such as game providers and retailers are obvious.
Our “do it yourself” – App Revenue Strategy Session ….
Together with key members of your management team* take some time out to consider the use/target audience/typical behaviors etc of your product/game/service and then work your way down the decision tree below. ( * One person businesses would still benefit at this stage from the critical input and challenges of friends, family/pets).
If you do the exercise properly it should mean that you start to identify more than one route to explore. The idea is not to get to the quick, most obvious, answer. Don’t dismiss the less obvious routes too quickly – you may be missing an opportunity that you hadn’t yet considered.
Even better, you might discover a revolutionary route to monetization that nobody has yet considered – if you do, then please feel free to private message me!
