Today we’re sharing an infographic created by ShortyMedia to celebrate YouTube’s 8th birthday and charting its journey over the past eight years.
Of course being in the video production industry, you would expect the team to be slightly biased but YouTube’s reach and impact continues to place it as an essential channel in organisations’ marketing toolkits – even though it wasn’t the first internet video hosting site*
(*I believe it’s shareyourworld.com, but please comment with corrections if I’m wrong)
YouTube’s been recognised as a social channel in its own right for what three/four years? Possibly longer by those early adopters out there. For those not into creating viral video, it is described by Larry Kim of WordStream as an effective venue for “accessing massive audiences through online advertising”; and its strength in getting ideas across (whether educational or purely sleepy-sloth/cats-in-hats focused) has been written about extensively.
Today YouTube can boast:
- More monthly unique users than the entire population of Europe
- A decade of content uploaded every day
- More partner program members than the entire population of Delaware
- #2 search engine (with over 1 billion views per day)
And on YouTube’s 8th birthday tomorrow? Why we’ll be celebrating with a video blog post of course!
Man, I remember when YouTube was just starting out. I thought they were crazy to get people involved in making their own vides, but look at them now. Simply amazing.
Thanks Michael! Yes, these days we have a choice of internet video sharing sites and having a video on the home page/ landing pages is now seen as an key part of the website design as with your website, and yes I did watch your home page vid 🙂
