How is it Used?
Once a Facebook Page is created, the page admins (all of the five roles) can access Insights from the admin panel shown on the page. Insights provides tabbed information starting with an overview graph showing the daily figures for “talking about” and the total reach of page content. The tabs display additional information e.g. demographics and sources of Likes, Reach and “Talking About”.
Application Developers can access Platform App Insights can be access from the Insights Dashboard. The information provided enables App owners to track how their app is being used, feedback for stream stories, referrals, user engagement and demographics on users.
Websites add a meta tag to gain access to insights and link it to either an individual’s personal Facebook account or an application. Access is gained through the Insights Dashboard. Insights provides an overview showing site engagement and referral traffic through use of social sharing buttons; and there are sections specific to the Like and Send buttons, organic shares and comments.
What do you get?
Access to the specific dashboard or boards, an ability to adjust the dates, capture screenshots of graphs and export the data into a. csv or excel file. It is also possible for the Page owner or Platform developer to authorise third party analytics applications to gain access to Insights data.
Those wishing to gain access to the full list of metrics used to generate the Insights Dashboards (for Pages, Apps or Websites) can do so via Facebook’s Open Graph API or FQL tables. (Permission is required to gain access to information about Facebook users that is not publicly available).
