A range of online lead generation systems (often called marketing automation tools) use a blend of analytics, tracking and user-subscription mechanisms to enable advanced tracking and reporting capabilities for visitors who have registered on your website.
The idea being… that once a visitor has signed up to your site in exchange for some free content, or something similar, then they are flagged as a sales prospect and thereafter their onsite actions can be tracked and recorded enabling them to become a more qualified lead depending on their activity on your site. e.g. if, after registration, they spend considerable time on a product category or page then they could be flagged as a “hot sales prospect” in reference to that product.
