Welcome to the online video masterclass. Today we’ll be tackling how to track the success of your online videos.
1. Why Track Your Online Videos?
Tracking your online videos is fundamental. It’s pretty difficult to determine success if you have no way of measuring it. By tracking everything from video views to conversion rates you can get a true representation of how your video marketing strategy is performing.
Remember, success is relative to the goals you have set out to achieve through your online video marketing, whether you’ve had 7 views that have generated £50,000 of business or 50,000 views that have generated £7 of business. Both could be deemed as successes or failures. This is why tracking your online videos progress is absolutely essential.
2. How Can You Track Your Online Videos?
There are a variety of free tools out there to track the progress of your online videos such as TubeMogul and YouTube Analytics. Such sites allow you to find out where your audiences are coming from, what moments in your video are most popular and what country your video is most popular in.
Other video sharing sites like Vimeo offer similar features, but such functions come at a pesky subscription cost. Another great free tool if you’re looking into how much traffic and conversion your videos are bringing in is Google Analytics. Google Analytics informs you how many users visited your site due to your video content and how many users found it within their search results.
3. When Should You Track Your Online Videos?
How frequently you track your videos progress is down to the preferences of the individual, brand or business. An online video will always need time to adjust to where it is being hosted and has to allow for adequate promotion to have taken place first.
Usually tracking your videos performance at the end of every month is a good way to judge its success depending on the duration of the marketing strategy. With that being said checking your progress a couple of times a month could help to highlight problems early on and give you time to make changes to your content where necessary.
4. How Long Does It Take To Track Online Video?
Some marketers may be under the illusion that taking the time to track an online video could take up a good portion of their working day. In actuality it will take no longer than 60 seconds to generate the progress reports in tools such as YouTube Analytics, TubeMogul or Google Analytics and the reports can be instantly downloaded or emailed to you.
This means you can access all of your data, download it and even print it off in less than 5 minutes. The data is always presented in an easily accessible manner, which also makes your assessment of it quick and simple.
That’s it for today’s online video masterclass. Be sure to share your knowledge and your thoughts in the comments section.
